Ucell has introduced its new Registan package, including the Huawei U8150 smartphone, a SIM with prepaid tariff, a 2GB SDcard and traffic bonuses.

The package costs US$297.40. The operator has also introduced US$1 and US$ 2.5 bonuses for top-ups of US$2.98 and US$0.59 respectively.

Uzbekistan-based mobile services provider Ucell has added new roaming partners. Ucell has signed a bilateral agreement with Latelz in Cambodia (Smart Mobile) and Telecom New Zealand.

The company will now allow prepaid users to roam on the Viva network in Kuwait, on Qtel’s network in Qatar and on Telekom Deutschland’s network in Germany.

Moreover, Ucell added Telecel in Bolivia as a GPRS and 3G roaming partner.

Uzbekistan mobile operator, Ucell has signed agreements with new roaming operators. Subscribers can now roam on ‘One network’ in Macedonia.

Ucell also added new 3G roaming partners: Zain in Jordan, Expresso in Senegal, Dauphun Telecom in French Antilles, Qcell in Gambia and Airtel in Ghana.

NSN acquires IRIS Telecom

Nokia Siemens Networks has announced that it has wrapped the acquisition of IRIS Telecom, a telecommunications and engineering services firm. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Istanbul, Turkey-based IRIS Telecom was founded in 1999 in order to provide network planning and optimization services to telecommunications operators and equipment vendors in Turkey, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa. According to company’s website, IRIS Telecom also provides network deployment and network operation services. Its customers include mobile operators Turkcell, Avea and Ucell.

In a news release, Finland-based Nokia Siemens Networks stated that the acquisition strengthens its implementation, network planning and optimization capabilities and business across Turkey, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

IRIS will continue to function as a separate legal entity and will remain based in Istanbul. Mete Gokdemir, the co-founder of IRIS, will continue to lead the company as chief executive. IRIS co-founder Johan Bruce will assume a new position as executive director. Gokdemir and Bruce will both continue to serve on IRIS’ board of directors.

­TeliaSonera has reported its Q3 release. The company saw a slight decrease in its revenues to US$4 billion, although excluding currency fluctuations, sales would have raised by 4.3%. Net profit was up by 19% toUS$905 million compare to last year.

During the quarter the number of subscriptions increased by 4.2 million, of which 2 million new subscriptions in the consolidated operations and 2.2 million in the associated companies, totaling 156.6 million.

According to Lars Nyberg, President and CEO, it is encouraging to see that the organic growth rate improved further in the third quarter and that the growth is coming from many parts within the group. Both Mobility Services and Eurasia are seeing accelerated growth compared to previous quarters, the former driven by mobile data and equipment sales and the latter by macroeconomic recovery and higher mobile penetration. More importantly, the company is delivering profitable growth and the EBITDA, excluding non-recurring items, in the third quarter was the highest in the company’s history. In Eurasia, they have invested significant amounts in building high-quality mobile networks in Uzbekistan and Nepal since the company acquired the operations in 2007 and 2008. Both Ucell and Ncell are delivering record-high subscriber intake and the company is closing the gap to the market leader in both countries. At the same time Kazakhstan, the largest market in Eurasia, continued to grow with growth in local currency exceeding 20% in the third quarter.

ZTE align LTE network for UCell

ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has announced a 4G (LTE) network constructed for Uzbekistan mobile operator UCell – a subsidiary of the TeliaSonera Group.

The company is using its prominent SDR technology and Uni-RAN solution for the deal and assures that the solution will enable the network to achieve a downloading peak rate of up to 100 Mbps.

The associates verified high-speed Internet access, streaming video, file uploads and downloads, Internet browsing and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services by using ZTE‘s LTE equipment during the tests carried out in Tashkent.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: TeliaSonera’s stake in Uzbekistani mobile operator Ucell has been raised from 74 percent to 94 percent after the former acquired 20 percent of the shares in the jointly owned TeliaSonera Uzbek Telecom from Takilant Limited.

TeliaSonera paid SEK 1.550 billion (USD 220 million) for the acquisition.

TeliaSonera Uzbek Telecom is a Dutch holding company owning 100 percent of Ucell in Uzbekistan.

Uzbeki wireless network operator has instigated a trial W-CDMA/HSPA network in Tashkent and Samarkand proclaimed Finnish telecoms equipment vendor Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN). NSN  dolution has permitted theoretical download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps and upload speeds of 1.4Mbps which enables services like video calling, mobile TV, video on demand and high speed internet access. Director General of Ucell, Oguz Memiguven, said we are excited at having the privilege to be the pioneer in bringing this technology to the country and celebrating this historic event together with Uzbekistan.
