Mozambique cabinet orders mobile tender

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The Mozambique cabinet has reportedly ordered that regulators begin preparations for the launch of an international tender for the country’s third national mobile licence. Luis Covane, spokesman for the Cabinet, said, ‘There is space for the entry of a third mobile network operator and after this authorisation, work related its entry should begin immediately.’ According to a report, Mozambique ended 2008 with a subscriber base of 4.4 million, mobile market grew by 30% and wireless penetration was reported to be 20%.

www.WirelessFedration.com/news: President of telecom regulator Arcep said that the government still intends to launch the tender offer for frequencies set aside for the country’s fourth mobile phone license before the end of July.

The only official candidate for the license is lliad. Numericable and Virgin Mobile France said they were considering the possibility to bid jointly.
