Versatel deploys NSN VoIP platform

Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has announced that it has deployed voice-over-IP (VoIP) platform for fixed line operator Versatel Communications, enabling the German firm to offer converged services to enterprise customers.

Through the launch of the vendor’s hiQ4200/4300 VoIP solution, Versatel will be able to immediately offer services such as IP Centrex and Customer Self Administration, enabling its business subscribers to use the full range of services centrally provided by Versatel, and also has complete control over the services in use.

According to Karsten Fuchs, Versatel’s head of Network, Service and Application Design, with the new platform, their enterprise customers can now directly connect their Private Branch Exchanges (PBXs) to Versatel via a cost effective IP connection. In addition, they are equipped to offer multimedia services to their business customers from a single central location. According to Versatel, the new offering will allow it to explore new business opportunities and thus expand its customer base.

Tele2 and Versatel have agreed to merge their Dutch and Belgian operations. The merger will take the form of Versatel acquiring Tele2′s Dutch and Belgian operations. Versatel will issue new shares to finance the transaction, with all shareholders able to participate in the share issue on a pro rata basis. Versatel said as well that it may need to raise capital to complete its business plan, although has yet to decide whether this would take the form of a debt or equity issue. Versatel and Tele2 have been working to complete their merger for nearly a year. While Tele2 holds a majority of shares in Versatel, opposition from minority shareholders has held up the legal merger of the companies.
