Viva, Kuwait Telecom Co. has signed a cooperation agreement with Kuwait TeleCard. The agreement was signed by Salman Al-Badran Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of Viva and Lina Al-Harbi, CEO of Kuwait TeleCard.

According to Al-Badran, this partnership will enhance the spread of the Viva through wings affiliated to Kuwait TeleCard at cooperative societies which will make it easier to the company to sell its services and products allowing it to be closer to its customers. As a result, customers can finish their transactions and pay their bills easily.

He added, Viva always seeks to cooperate and coordinate with leading Kuwaiti companies and institutions to leverage their expertise to support Viva’s expansion Strategy and to spread more broadly to reach all segments of the Kuwaiti society.

It is valuable to mention that Kuwait Telecard is leading prepaid international calling service provider in Kuwait for more than 12 years.

Uzbekistan-based mobile services provider Ucell has added new roaming partners. Ucell has signed a bilateral agreement with Latelz in Cambodia (Smart Mobile) and Telecom New Zealand.

The company will now allow prepaid users to roam on the Viva network in Kuwait, on Qtel’s network in Qatar and on Telekom Deutschland’s network in Germany.

Moreover, Ucell added Telecel in Bolivia as a GPRS and 3G roaming partner.

Viva has launched a promotion for loyal customers. Subscribers who have at least 6 years in the Viva network will receive one hour of free SMS. The text messages can be sent to national numbers too.

Bolivian operator NuevaTel PCS, which operates under the Viva brand, has launched a top-up promotion for its prepaid customers.

Users who recharge their mobile account by March 31 will be given double the amount of airtime included on the top-up card. Users can use the bonus airtime for national and international calls, as well as national SMS and value-added services.

Bahrain denies 4th mobile license plan

Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) Chairman Dr Mohammed Al Amer has dismissed as untrue reports that it is considering a fourth mobile operator license in the kingdom.

According to Dr Al Amer, Bahrain’s telecom market is now saturated after the launch of the third mobile operator, VIVA, but a potential demographic growth may require an additional mobile phone company.

He added that the authority is also in the process of working out a system to curb troublesome short messages sent by many companies to their customers at their expense. A guide-book on phone masts will be issued in co-operation with municipal councils to regulate their installation in villages.

National Mobile Telecommunications Co., the Kuwaiti phone company controlled by Qatar Telecom’s third-quarter profit declined 3.2% as competition strengthened.

According to company’s statement, net income chop down to US$63.4 million from US$64.7 million a year earlier.

According to Chairman Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al-Thani, in the company’s home market of Kuwait, they continue to address the competitive pressures and increased the share in the market. Wataniya is in competition with Mobile Telecommunications Co., the market leader known as Zain; and with Kuwait Telecommunications Co., called Viva.

According to the company, profit in the first nine months chop to US$190.4 million, or 107 fils per share, from US$340.2 million or 194 fils, a year earlier.

As per the company, Wataniya’s customer base rose almost 30% to more than 16.2 million at the end of September. Revenue advanced 14% in the first nine months, while EBITDA gained 11%.

Saudi Telecom, a leading telecommunications operator in the Middle East is soon to launch a new Points of Presence (PoPs) in eight countries including India.
This was attained during associations with Saudi Telecom’s affiliates VIVA Bahrain and Aircel India, and partnerships with ranked operators and telecoms in the other countries. The services would be widening to Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, India, UK and Singapore.

According to the company, the service will also provide the shortest path within the area throughout Saudi Telecom’s widespread coverage where the IP steering is optimized so that provincial traffic stays within the region. Through its partnerships with major global top carriers, Saudi Telecom’s global wholesale MPLS service will permit regional operators to offer their multi-national enterprise customers with comprehensive regional and global IP-VPN solutions that are highly secure and reliable in addition to the Managed Router service (MRS) and other Value added services (VAS).

Viva Bahrain offers free HSPA+ internet

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Saudi Telecom Company (STC) owned Viva which is a newcomer in Bahrain launched a free-of-charge promotion. The mobile operator has claimed in the promotion that it will offer the fastest broadband internet service of its type in Bahrain.

An announcement has been made by the company that mobile internet services will be provided at no subscription cost and without registration fees until June 4, 2010.

USB dongle will be used to access the service which will allow theoretical maximum mobile download speeds of 21.1Mbps over Viva Bahrain’s HSPA+ 3.5G network.
