Leadership change in Vodafone Albania (Europe)
Haris Broumidis, Vodafone Albania’s CEO since November 2007, moves by early April 2012 to Vodafone Group Headquarters in London as Commercial Director for Europe. In this new role, he will be responsible for accelerating the implementation of Vodafone’s commercial priorities in the European markets, including Albania.
Haris Broumidis commenced his co-operation with Vodafone in 2002 and served successively as Marketing Director and Enterprise Business Unit Director at Vodafone Greece, while the last four years under his leadership enabled Vodafone Albania to become the undisputable leader of telecommunications market in the country.
Dietlof Mare has been appointed new CEO for Vodafone Albania. During his career he served for four years as CEO of Vodacom Tanzania and prior to that managed the Vodacom business in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Vodafone boosts Albanian 3G network coverage (Albania)
Vodafone Albania CEO Haris Broumidis has announced that the company continues the expansion of its 3G network, with plans to cover the densest population areas within summer 2011.
Broumidis stated that he is glad to inform that after introducing 3G technology to the capital city Tirana they have spread their 3G network footprint in Durr«s, Elbasan, Fush«-Kruj«, Fier, Vlora and a number of their surrounding areas. In a few weeks, they will have 3G services in Shkod«r, Lezh«, Kruj« and their surrounding areas. The company has envisaged covering with 3G signal, all main cities including the coastal populated areas by summer 2011.
According to Mr. Broumidis, the type of 3G technology offered by Vodafone is of the top range with designated 3G speeds up to 14.4 Mbps. They are bringing to Albania the upper scale 3G technology which allows speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps at the initial stage, which very soon, as the demand increases, will be updated to faster speeds. The company believes that Albanians deserve to have one of the most advanced 3G technology in the region.
Vodafone Albania selects NSN for 3G Network deal
Vodafone Albania has selected Nokia Siemens Networks for 3G network expansion contract.
As per the four-year deal, Nokia Siemens Networks will also provide consulting, civil works support, network planning and optimization, training and maintenance services.
In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks will replace the existing GSM radio network provided by Vodafone Albania’s previous radio network vendor.
Last week Vodafone Albania launched the country’s first 3G network, with coverage initially available in the capital city-Tirana and its suburbs. The company stated that it plans to offer nationwide coverage within 18 months.

Vodafone Albania has launched the country’s first 3G network with coverage initially available in the capital city-Tirana and its suburbs. By starting the 3G operations initially in Tirana and soon in other cities, Vodafone will provide Internet speed of up to 14.4 Mbps.
According to Mr. Haris Broumidis, CEO of Vodafone Albania the company is pleased to offer to the inhabitants of Tirana the 3G technology experience, which will provide them fast access to internet, a number of new services and the most advantageous tariff plans. Vodafone Albania as the leading and most innovative telecommunications company in the country, believes that 3G will revolutionize the way Albanian families and businesses use their mobiles and access to internet.
After Tirana, 3G services will be extended to all current and new Vodafone customers across the country within 18 months.
Vodafone Albania plan for 3G launch
Vodafone Albania has announced that its 3G network will be available initially in the capital city Tirana with other cities such as Durres, Elbasan, Fier, Shkodra and Vlora following over an 18-month period.
Under the terms of its licence, Vodafone Albania is obliged to cover 36% of the Albanian population within six months, rising to 65.5% after a year and 85.6% after 18 months.

Vodafone Albania has launched Mini Call Service for the New Year festivities period. This service allows subscribers to create a voice message and send it directly to the recipient. The new service intends to provide a bunch of complementary extensive services to its subscribers. The operator has signed up more than 1, 127,253 subscribers in Albania (as per end of April 2008) and provides a wide range of high quality communication services, including voice and data communications.
