Vodafone Romania starts prepaid promotion

Vodafone Romania has launched a prepaid promotional offer that brings various bonuses to customers who top-up their account.

If a customer recharges his account by at least US$7.05, it brings customers unlimited calls towards numbers in their friends group as a bonus. At the same time, each recharge of minimum US$7.05 brings persons in the group of friends of those who recharge a bonus of 50 minutes for calls towards group members. Recharging by US$14.11 enables users to offer their friends or family members 12 months of availability for their Vodafone prepaid card.

This is possible by activating the ‘Valabilitate (Availability)’ add-on with a call to *100#, the menu ‘Cadouri surpriza’ (Surprise gifts). Vodafone Romania created an interactive system especially for this campaign that enables customers to contact the stars of its TV ad for ‘Cartela Vodafone’ (Vodafone card), namely Paul, Cristina and Bogdanel.

 

Vodafone Romania to launch Google Nexus S

Vodafone Romania will expand its product portfolio with the addition of Google Nexus S (Samsung GT-I9020T), a smartphone co-developed by Google and Samsung.

The smartphone will be launched in Romanian market on March 9, 2011. Details about its pricing are yet to be released.

Samsung-made Google Nexus S runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and is the first phone to pack a curved screen that fits the profile of your face. Other than that, it’s almost a carbon copy of the Galaxy S, with a touchscreen, 1GHz Hummingbird chip, 16GB SSD and 5MP cam (with second VGA snapper on the front).

 

Vodafone to invest $699.25 mn in Romania

Vodafone Group CEO, Vittorio Colao has announced that the company is planning to invest over $699.25 million in Romania in the next five years at a meet.

Vodafone Romania officials stated that the meeting’s subject was the evolution of the telecommunications sector in Romania and its prospects. Among the projects, the aforementioned investments will go into a concerning network operation centres that will provide technical services to both Vodafone Romania as well as Vodafone units in other countries.

Vodafone has also shown its interest into a future collaboration for the use of US$117.47 million in EU funds for the expansion of its broadband internet infrastructure in areas that lack broadband connectivity in Romania, the so-called white areas.

 

Facebook coming to non- smartphones

Facebook has extended its mobile services with the deployment of a java based application that can be downloaded onto most basic phones.

The Facebook for Feature Phones app works on more than 2,500 devices from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG and other manufacturers, and it was built in cooperation with Snaptu.

According to Facebook, the app provides a better experience for its most popular features, including an easier-to-navigate home screen, contact synchronization, and fast scrolling of photos and friend updates.

The 14 mobile operators are offering free data access when using the new Facebook mobile app during the first 90 days after they launch. During the next few months, they plan to make the app available through more networks to deploy the Java application.

Romanian regulator to allow 3G across 2G bands

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The technical and administrative measures of the provision for deployment of 3G services using the 900MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands by the cellular operators has been completed by  Romanian regulator the National Communications Authority (ANCOM).

The 3G coverage of Orange Romania, Vodafone Romania and Cosmote will now be improved across the entirety of their current footprint.

According to Catalin Marinescu, president of ANCOM, this measure is part of the authority’s stated intention to promote broadband development in Romania and along with the CDMA license awards in 2008 and the forthcoming review of local loop unbundling, the liberalization of spectrum in the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands will contribute to the increased penetration of mobile internet access.

New CEO improves Vodafone’s profitability

The policy of cutting back on operating costs and of rendering the business more efficient will drive the EBITDA of mobile telephony operator Vodafone Romania up by an additional 1 percentage point this financial year, Liliana Solomon, the company’s CEO told Ziarul Financiar.

Solomon would not disclose estimates on the total growth rate or revenue growth in the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2007.

The company, which in the previous fiscal year (March 2005 – March 2006) had posted turnover worth 1.008 billion dollars, will “easily” exceed the 1 billion-dollar mark this fiscal year, added the chief executive of Vodafone Romania.
