The new promotion enables subscribers to send free on-net SMS between 18:00 and 19:00 hours every day. The service can be activated free of charge online at Vodafone’s website, or by calling a short number. The promotion runs until 31 October.

Vodafone Italy has announced the plans for HSDPA expansion in undeserved areas. According to the firm, it has deployed 7.2Mbps HSDPA technology around Olevano in the province of Salerno in southern Italy and it intends to add a new regional network each month this year. Vodafone Italy CEO Paolo Bertoluzzo, said that it would be possible to reduce the percentage of the population without broadband internet access from 8% to 1% with an investment of EUR500 million (USD640 million) over three years.

The Italian regulator Agcom finally approves the 10% cut in mobile termination rates for Italian mobile operators by 2011. The move is aligned with EU Commission’s requests, which calls for higher competition in Italian mobile market and provide increasing benefits in terms of decreasing consumer prices.
Under the new tariffs plan, Italy will lower the 2011 rates to $0.068 for Telecom Italia’s Tim, Vodafone Italia and Wind, from $0.114 for the first two operators and $0.123 for the third; and to $0.0815 for H3G’s 3 Italia from $0.168 currently. Agcom anticipates to achieve a full symmetry in terminations rates by 2012 at $0.058.
