Tata DoCoMo will trail NFC based payment service in Hyderabad (India)
Indian telecom operator Tata DoCoMo in partnership with XIUS will trial Near Field Communications (NFC) based mobile payments in Hyderabad.
Initially, operator based services like mobile phone top-up as well as content like ringtones and wallpapers will be on offer.
Tata DoCoMo will use the NFC based payments to increase its retail points of presence and expand the availability of services to coffee shops and most interestingly, through self-service Active Posters.
Active Posters are paper-thin-self-service terminals with glass touch sensing, enabling as many as 18 retail touch points at any customer gathering point.
Samsung and Giorgio Armani to launch I9010 Galaxy S
Samsung has teamed up with Giorgio Armani to launch a designer handset – the Samsung Galaxy S. Samsung I9010 Galaxy S Giorgio Armani is pre-loaded with Armani logos, wallpapers and apps.
The Samsung Galaxy S is a successor to Samsung Captivate smart phone which is exclusively for AT&T, US. The new Giorgio Armani Galaxy S phone is alike the Captivate – a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, a 1GHz processor, 16GB internal storage, 5 megapixel camera with HD recording and lots of connectivity options.
The handset is bundled with a 5-megapixel camera, a multimedia player, push e-mail service, along with 16GB of memory. This Android phone will be retailed for US$965.
The fashion gadget will hit the Giorgio Armani boutiques and some major retailers in Italy, France, UK, Germany, Dubai, China, Hong Kong, Spain, Russia and the Netherlands from next month.
Spice Telecom Launches Local Language WAP Portal – ‘Kannada Kasturi’
Local content development on WAP: Spice Telecom has launched a WAP portal featuring content in Kannada called “Kannada Kasturi”, featuring ringtones, videos, animation, wallpapers, videotones and theme downloads. According to The Hindu, there’s also live astrology, song dedication, and interactive voice response. Spice has also tied up with Indiatimes for the short code services.
IndianTelevision.com adds that Times Internet Limited (TIL) is providing the content. TIL Director Sanvij Sethi said that TIL owns “almost one third of the almost 2000-3000 titles of Kannada content”. Spice CEO Navin Kaul expects subscriber base of 500,000 in Karnataka to double in the next 10 months, and increase it coverage from 80 to 150 towns and cities.
Both articles list the site as ‘Kannada Kasturi.com’, with a space between ‘Kannada’ and ‘Kasturi’.
