Vringo, Inc., a provider of video ringtones and next generation personalization solutions for mobile sevices has announced that it has commercially launched its video ringtone platform service with Orange UK.

This launch follows Vringo’s previously-announced carrier partnership with Everything Everywhere Limited, which operates the Orange brand.

According to Jon Medved, Vringo’s Chief Executive Officer, this launch is an important milestone for Vringo. The UK is one of the most robust and advanced telecommunications markets in the world, and we believe a successful commercial launch with Orange will drive our growth. This is a dynamic time for Vringo as they have reported strong subscriber numbers in our test market in Malaysia and are moving forward with launches in the U.S. and Singapore. In addition to the launch with Orange, they anticipate announcing additional distribution channels and new content to enhance and support our commercial launch in the UK.

The Vringo video ringtone service consists of a Web, WAP and mobile app experience that enables customers to create, download and share high-quality video ringtones. Orange UK customers will have access to all of the Vringo platform’s service capabilities including Vringo’s extensive content library of over 5,000 video ringtone clips.

Vringo’s fully-hosted carrier platform is currently deployed for international partners in six markets with new launches anticipated in the next quarter. Claro Peru, America Movil’s subsidiary has launched Claro Messenger, a carrier-branded mobile instant messaging service based on and powered by mobile messaging systems provider Synchronica’s hosted IMPS platform.

Synchronica is in the process of deploying this mobile IM solution across all 17 of Am©rica M³vil’s subsidiaries as part of an agreement which was signed earlier this year.

Claro Perº subscribers can register for the service by visiting the dedicated Claro Messenger website or by navigating to the icon Msngr icon in the WAP menu of their phones.

According to Juan Cueva, Claro’s VAS Manager, 80% of all mobile subscribers in Peru are younger than 45 years of age. Claro Messenger is ideal for their market because younger users tend to embrace alternative ways of communicating with each other, and their Claro-branded instant messaging community does exactly that.

According to Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, with a high pre-paid base and low smartphone penetration, Peru is exactly the type of market that Synchronica thinks of when they develop their award-winning products. Claro Perº is now the fifth subsidiary of Am©rica M³vil to launch their churn-busting Claro Messenger solution, and they certain that it will prove to be a highly popular addition to its value-added services portfolio.

Our research report Booming UAE Telecom Sector” shows that the UAE’s telecommunication market has shown tremendous growth during the past few years, mainly propelled by the government initiatives aimed at the deregulation of the market and introduction of competition. Our research reveals that penetration in the mobile market reached around 190% in 2008, leaving less room for operators to acquire further advantage of the market. But this doesn’t indicate the end of growth as the number of mobile subscribers is forecasted to grow at a CAGR of over 7% during 2009-2012. Our report has discussed factors behind the growth of mobile market and telecommunication market in the UAE.

Our study shows that including huge domestic demand, there are also many other drivers that are fuelling growth in the UAE telecom market.

There has been a mass migration of users from traditional voice-only mobiles to more sophisticated third-generation mobile technology. As a result, there has been an upsurge in the sales of 3G mobile phones in the UAE. The emerging 3G markets present tremendous growth potential for the content and application providers in the UAE, as 3G helps mobile users to access various WAP-enabled websites on mobiles. Globe telecom has claimed that it has grabbed more than 50% market share in value-added services in its first six months. The company asserts to have an ‘inconsistent share’ of the country’s value-added services market. Value added services includes ringtones, music downloads and social networking services.
According to Rina Azcuna-Siongco, Globe Telecom’s value-added services head, more subscribers preferred mobile Internet handsets over personal computers, netbooks and laptops for accessing social networking sites and to avail other mobile services.
According to Globe Telecom, the availability of mobile Internet-capable devices and affordable data rates helped push the company’s value-added services revenues up. Customers are increasingly accessing the Internet using their mobile phones due to the rise of popular content and applications today. The credit for the good performance of the company goes to the ease and convenience of accessing and using these services via SMS (short messaging service) menus, the Globe WAP (wireless access protocol) portal and the Globe Web portal.
In its second-quarter report, Globe Telecom’s mobile data revenues, which accounted for 49% of total mobile service revenues in the first half, declined by 13% compared to last year.

The total subscribers increased to 24.6 million in the second quarter, up by 3% from the first quarter, but indicated a fall by 2% from last year. Postpaid subscribers increased by 8% to 909,466.
