AAPT and Telstra agree commercial terms

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Telstra Wholesale and AAPT today announced that they have reached commercial agreement on a broad range of products and services including Wholesale Line Rental (WLR), Local Carriage Service (LCS) and PSTN Originating Terminating Access (PSTN OTA).

The agreement extends an existing long-term commercial relationship initially forged between the two parties in 1991 when AAPT, Australia’s third largest telecommunications group, started offering competitive fixed line services to Australian consumers. (more…)

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Telecom New Zealand’s XT network is growing at top gear as the operator adds more than 100,000 subscribers in five weeks of network launch. Spokesman Nick Brown said more than 100,000 customers had joined the network in the five weeks since its launch, “suggesting large numbers of customers were waiting for XT”.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Alcatel-Lucent Managed Solutions India (ALMSI), a JV between French telecom solution provider and Reliance Communication, the Indian mobile operator are close to inking 2-3 deals in as many months.
“The JV was formed initially to cater to the network operations need of Reliance Communications (RCom) alone. Now, we also plan to focus on business development opportunities in India and abroad,” Alcatel-Lucent India Head Vivek Mohan said.
Mohan added that the company was close to strike two-three deals in the network operation space, which might be announced in the next two-three months.
Though the details of the deal remain undisclosed, the source close to the development revealed that an agreement with Telecom New Zealand is round the corner.
Alcatel holds a 67% share in the JV whereas RCom holds the rest of 33%.
Sandip Biswas, Head of Managed Services, RCom said that the joint venture, at the time of its inception exactly one-year ago, had targeted to clock $500 million revenue over a period of five years.
“Now, we have increased it to $750 million and hope to even go past that target during the remaining period of five years,” Biswas added.
In its first year of operation, Biswas revealed that the JV has registered just over $100 million revenue which is likely to rise in the current year given that Reliance Communication was expanding its operations. Revenue from other prospective clients were also expected.

“The JV had started with CDMA and GSM operations and maintenance of five circles. Subsequently, we expanded the base to all 23 circles where RCom has operations,” he said.

The time when the operator launched its XT Network, it also launched Facebook text notifications which included new messages, friends’ status updates or friend requests. This service also allows subscribers to update their status, search for phone numbers, or upload photos and videos from their mobile phone. Since the launch of XT, nearly 2,500 Telecom subscribers are using Facebook messaging every day.
The operator also introduced Twitter updates via SMS. Receiving updates from these social networking sites is free of cost.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Telecom New Zealand has reported a sale of 25,000 mobile handsets and SIM cards for its newly launched XT mobile network. The website of the operator also saw a significant rise in traffic, equivalent to the traffic normally seen over a month and a half. Handsets were being ordered online at a rate of one/minute.
The operator also announced that a number large firms have also joined the Gen-i’s new mobility solutions including Adidas, Axa, Crane Group, Harcourts, Harvey World Travel, Mainfreight and Radius Health, with more to be announced in coming weeks.

The 3G Treo Pro runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and is compatible with Microsoft System Centre Mobile Device Manager 2008 and Microsoft Direct Push Technology. The smartphone supports Wi-Fi, GPS and high-speed UMTS/HSDPA network capabilities. It adorns a high-resolution colour LCD touch screen, a full-Qwerty keyboard and a voicemail indicator.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Vodafone has decided to drop the legal proceedings against Telecom NZ, after Telecom has reportedly said that will rectify the technical issues causing interference in Vodafone’s mobile network.
Telecom said the agreement meant the new network could get operational by month-end. Vodafone had commenced legal
action to stop an original May 13 launch date, saying interference from the network is causing difficulty for its own subscribers to make phone calls.
“Telecom has agreed to extend its network filter installation programme, in order to help resolve the interference issues identified as impacting Vodafone mobile customers,” Telecom said in a statement.
Telecom’s XT brand network is based on the similar GSM technology like that of Vodafone, whereas the existing network is CDMA based.
