Cloud9 plans Isle of Man debut in March

Telegeography writes…Cloud9, a subsidiary of Wire9 Telecom, is planning to launch the Isle of Man’s first alternative wireless network next month. The launch will end Manx Telecom’s long-standing monopoly in the wireless arena. According to Cloud9 spokesman Shaun Lancaster, the company’s main infrastructure is already in place. ‘We are looking to launch [in] early March. Our main thrust is to use a wide range of existing transmitter sites. We have put in a couple of planning applications but these are for small infill sites for areas that are not currently covered. Our coverage is absolutely excellent,’ he added. Cable & Wireless is expected to follow Cloud9′s lead, with the launch of a third wireless network on the island in the summer.
