Sony Ericsson earns profit of EUR 21 million
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: A net profit of EUR 21 million against a loss of EUR 293 million a year earlier has been announced by handset maker Sony Ericsson. The launch of new products such as the Xperia X10 and Vivaz has been cited as the reason behind the good performance.
Even its restructuring programme aims to reduce annual costs by EUR 880 million and its full effect is expected in the second half of this year. 10.5 million phones have been shipped by Sony Ericsson in the quarter, down 28 percent from a year ago. Total revenues fell 19 percent year-on-year to EUR 1.405 billion.
The quarter ended with cash of EUR 563 million. The company has also estimated that its market share fell 1 point to 4 percent in Q1.
MWC2010: Vodafone displays Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: It was not said by any network that it will be selling the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini at its launch on Sunday but with the display of the device at Vodafone’s stand at the Mobile World Congress shows that it will be one of the homes for the Android smartphone with a tiny 2.5-inch screen.
However, there is no sign of its QWERTY keyboard cousin, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro, on the network’s stand but it can be inferred that it might also appear in future or on any other network.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is the first Android phone from Sony Ericsson. The Xperia X10 sports an 8-Megapixel camera, 3G HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as a specially developed user interface that sits on top of the Google Android 2.0 OS. The Xperia X10 comes with a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen and a 1GHz Qualcomm snapdragon processor.
