The Regional Authorities in Sardinia have signed a contract with Telecom Italia for the realisation of the Sics project, aimed at extending broadband services to remote and rural areas of the island. As a result of the deal, by June 2008, the inhabitants of more than 100 municipalities in Sardinia will be able to benefit from a broadband ADSL connection. The project is inspired by a similar project developed in Scotland in 2004.
